Description

The Liberty Head Eagle is also known as a Coronet Head Eagle. Though used throughout the nation, it is interesting to note that large quantities of this coin ended up being held by a number of foreign banks, as those foreign nations did not want to conduct trade with the United States using paper money. It is believed that most surviving uncirculated examples of this coin came from those foreign bank hoards. In 1866 the motto In God We Trust was added to the reverse above the eagle, though both Motto and No Motto varieties were produced in that same year. This series was struck at the Philadelphia, San Francisco, Denver, New Orleans and Carson City mints. This piece come in a mint state 63, and are certified by PCGS.
