Description

The Liberty Head Half Eagle, also known as a Coronet Head Half Eagle, was widely used by the general public because of its practical $5 denomination. That amount often represented a week’s wages for the average worker, especially during the earlier years of the coin’s issue. In 1866 the motto In God We Trust was added to the reverse above the eagle, though both Motto and No Motto varieties were produced in that same year. This series is notable for being struck at all the U.S. Mints and branch mints of the era – the Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, Denver and Carson City mints. This piece come in a mint state 62, and are certified by NGC.
